EBRD promotes commercial mediation in eastern Europe and Central Asia

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is promoting best legal practices in eastern Europe and Central Asia by organising a specialist event on commercial mediation in Minsk.

The two-day event will be attended by senior civil servants from the ministries of justice and the courts of Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Moldova, Mongolia, Russia, Tajikistan, and Ukraine. They will discuss ways of settling commercial disputes through commercial mediation, which is widely used in advanced economies.

The introduction of commercial mediation – a dynamic, structured and interactive process where a neutral third party helps disputing parties to resolve problems through negotiation techniques – has the potential to significantly reduce the burden on courts, improve clearance rates and improve efficiency in the administration of justice.

During the forum delegates will discuss practical steps that are important for mediation to become an effective and attractive alternative to traditional litigation. Participants and speakers will share their experiences of developing mediation in their own legal systems, share new ideas on improving it and address remaining challenges including capacity-building of key players such as mediators, court administrators and judges.

The forum will be chaired by Bill Marsh, an international commercial mediator.

By organising the conference the EBRD is providing a unique platform for discussing issues related to the wide-scale introduction of mediation in eastern Europe and Central Asia.


Hayk Hovhannisyan goes on sharing his experience in ADR

Hayk Hovhannisyan continues to share his knowledge and experience in ADR as the new term commences in the School of advocates. “Representation in arbitration, international arbitration and mediation” introduces auditors to arbitration, differences between courts and arbitration courts, procedures of recognizing and enforcing arbitral awards (including foreign awards) in Armenia, as well as mediation and its importance in effective dispute resolution.

Hayk Hovhannisyan participates in e-commerce related seminar

Hayk Hovhannisyan took part in a seminar titled ”Internet+Commerce” in Moscow, during which issues like export of goods via Internet, creation of equal conditions for Russian and foreign companies during e-commerce in Russia, goods aggregators, self-regulation in various spheres of goods sale and Internet services were discussed.

Candidates should meet the following criteria:

• LL.B and/or LL.M degree(s), with an emphasis on economic competition, regulatory and commercial laws;

Hayk Poghosyan’s precedential victory at the Administrative court

According to the amendment in Law on exceeding the established speed limit on a vehicle, the administrative authority shall deduct 10 km/h from the index recorded by the speedometer because of a possible inaccuracy in the record. Before implementing the law, however, Hayk Poghosyan’s client was fined by the Road Police service for exceeding the established amount of speed for 21 km/h.
